Maggie Grace was born Margaret Grace Denig on September 21 1982. Maggie Grace is an American actress best known for her role as Shannon Rutherford in ABC TV show Lost. After her parents divorced, she relocated with her mother into Los Angeles. She landed her debut role in the film, Rachel's Room's lead character in 2001, despite having a difficult time with finances. The TV film Murder in Greenwich that she appeared in, where she played 15-years-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination for the Young Artist Award. In 2004 Grace was selected to portray Shannon Rutherford in the television series Lost where she acted as a principal character for the initial two seasons winning an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. Grace was dropped from the series in 2005 to focus on the role of a greater part in film, appearing in the film Taken alongside Tom Welling as Kim Mills in Taken. She was as a character in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club in 2007 as well as Taken (2008) with Liam Neeson. She reprised this role in Taken 2 (2013) and Taken 3 (2015). The actress also appeared in Alice on Malice in Wonderland which is the modern-day version from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace returned to the character of Shannon in two more episodes of Lost as well as the show's finale. In 2013, she appeared in the sixth episode of Californication. She portrays Faith a groupie and her muse to the stars that catches the attention of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. She is a member of the Gyllenhaal clan as well as the sister to Jake Gyllenhaal. When she was a teenager her career began on small roles with her father and appeared in Donnie Darko along with her twin brother. Then she appeared on Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (both 2002) as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal's lead roles in Secretary, the romantic comedy-drama erotico and Sherrybaby (a dramatic) have earned her nominations to the Golden Globe Awards. In 2006, she appeared in numerous commercially successful films, such as World Trade Center. However the role she played as Rachel Dawes that brought her greater attention for her performance in The Dark Knight (2008). She was nominated to win an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress due to her part in Crazy Heart, (2009). In the following years she appeared in comedy and dramatic films: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. In addition to her role as a Secret Service agent, she was also seen as a character in White House Down (2013) as well as Frank (2014). One of her most recent roles were the protagonist in The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal wrote and directed her debut film The Lost Daughter in 2021. The thriller that dealt with psychological issues was awarded the Best Screenplay Award from the Venice International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for the Academy Award of Best Adapted Screenplay.
